TV RECAP: Girl Meets the New World

Recap, Television

Air date: May 12, 2015

Continuing with the premiere week of the new season of Girl Meets World, the second episode picks up where Riley (Rowan Blanchard) left off with Lucas (Peyton Meyer). The finale of season 1 had Riley get her first kiss from Lucas on a subway car, leaving them both now wondering what happens next.

Meanwhile, Auggie (August Maturo) has a new friend named Doi, or at least that’s what he would like to be called. Actual name: Dewey. Topanga (Danielle Fishel) intervenes to make him call himself by his given name but ends up for more than she bargained for. Making her come to realize that there are some battles that just cannot be won.

Trying to figure out the next step after a first kiss is hard, but it’s even harder when your classmates are telling you what you should do. After feeling the pressure from their peers Riley and Lucas decide to be “boyfriend and girlfriend,” but putting a label on it does not make it any easier for them. Seeing how Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis) are acting after their first date also does not help matters.

After a failure of a coffee shop date, Topanga and Cory (Ben Savage) set them straight that outside pressure from others is not the way to start a relationship. Realizing that they want to do things their own way and continue being friends Riley and Lucas break-up. Knowing that the next time they decide to come together, it will be at a time they choose.

Favourite Quote:

Riley, “But sometimes the right pressure can turn you into a diamond.”

Topanga, “Yeah, and the wrong pressure turns you into dust.”
