To celebrate the new season of Girl Meets World, Disney Channel kicked off the season by having a 5-night premiere event. This season continues to follow middle-schooler Riley Matthews, the daughter of beloved Boy Meets World characters Cory and Topanga, as she tries to find her own way in the world.
After Riley and Maya (Rowan Blanchard) decide that they don’t want Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) as their teacher again this year, they transfer to a different class. They discover students closely similar to themselves and are told to not talk about their lives inside the classroom.
Meanwhile Auggie (August Maturo) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) go to visit Mrs. Svorski’s (Cloris Leachman) bakery where she tries to convince Topanga to take over her bakery. Topanga is hesitant to do so because she has always known to the bakery to be Mrs. Svorski’s and cannot see it changing. But Mrs. Svorski is ready to move on and for her place to go through a change.
After getting kicked out of their new classroom Riley and Maya return to Cory’s class where they are welcomed back. They question why they’re allowed to talk about themselves in class if this is not the norm. It leads them to believe that they are at the centre of everything. But it is after the death of Mrs. Svorski that they begin to question how much of the world really circles around them and their problems.
The episode ends with Cory practicing what he learned and taught from his teacher when he calls Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) to check up on him and make sure he’s okay. The Boy Meets World nostalgia is just all over this scene and is the perfect way to end the first episode of the season.
